Official page ↗ · ReadUnder Kansas statute, the deadline to return your ballot is the close of the polls on Election Day. A district court in Douglas County entered a statewide injunction requiring ballots postmarked by election day to be counted if a ballot arrives by the last postal delivery on Friday after the election. The Kansas Court of Appeals Court denied the Secretary of State’s motion to stay the injunction for purposes of the Primary Election, but the Secretary of State filed a renewed motion with the Court of Appeals after the Primary asking it to stay the injunction for purposes of the General Election. The motion was denied. As of 2026-10-19 this Secretary of State page reports that outcome; the Johnson County Election Office advance-voting page, read the same day, reports a different status: the Secretary of State, represented by the Attorney General, has filed a motion with the Kansas Appellate Courts to stay the decision so that the deadline remains the close of the polls on Election Day, the matter is pending on appeal, and voters are urged to return their ballots by the close of the polls on Election Day. The two official sources disagree and neither gives a decision date.
ReadVoters who vote by mail can return their advance ballot to their county election office by putting it in any of the drop boxes located within their county. Drop boxes are locked at the close of polls on Election Day.
ReadApplications for mail ballots for an August primary election, or for a November general election must be received by the Tuesday before election day.
ReadUnder Kansas statute, the deadline to return your ballot is the close of the polls on Election Day. A district court judge in Douglas County has entered a temporary injunction altering that deadline. However, the Secretary of State, represented by the Attorney General, has filed a motion with the Kansas Appellate Courts to stay the decision so that the deadline remains the close of the polls on Election Day. Because of the legal uncertainty while the matter is pending on appeal, voters are urged to return their ballots by the close of the polls on Election Day. As of 2026-10-19 this county page reports that status. The Kansas Secretary of State's advance-voting page, as recorded in the statewide file, reports a different status: that the Court of Appeals denied the stay and that the renewed motion "was denied." The two official sources disagree and neither gives a decision date.
State law requires polling places to open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on election day. State law allow counties to open polling locations as early as 6:00 a.m. and close as late as 8:00 p.m.
ReadState law requires Kansas voters to show photographic identification when casting a vote in person. If the photo ID has an expiration date on it, the ID must not have expired at the time of voting. An acceptable photo ID does not have to have an expiration date on the document in order to be valid. Exemptions from photo ID requirements exist for: permanent advance voters (voters with illness or disabilities); military and overseas voters and their spouses and dependents; and voter with religious objections who sign a Declaration of Religious Objection (Form DRO). Voters age 65 or older may use an expired photo ID.
