The Vugol Vector: if the election were held today
Who would hold the Senate, the House and the governorships if the 2026 election were held today. The Vugol Vector calls every race: from its verified polling average where one exists, otherwise from our proprietary ensemble model. Toss-ups go to whoever is ahead by any margin, and each chamber says exactly how many calls were that close.
U.S. Senate
Democrats would control the U.S. Senate.
D 52R 48100 seats; control takes 51 (D) or 50 (R). The Vice President, a Republican, breaks a 50–50 tie. Both independents caucus with the Democrats and are counted with them.
3 close calls · 15 from verified polls · 20 from the Vugol Vector model
3 of today’s calls were toss-ups decided by the slightest edge (1 D, 2 R). If every close call went the other way, Democrats would hold 51–54 seats and Republicans 46–49.

How these totals work
- Seats not on the 2026 ballot keep their current party (2026-09-30, from the official sources on the races page).
- Every 2026 race is called for the side ahead today: our editors' rating where they set one, otherwise the leader in the average of verified polls, otherwise the Vugol Vector model. A narrow lead counts the same as a wide one.
- A close call is a toss-up decided by the slightest edge. Each chamber shows how many there were today and the range if every one went the other way.
- The model is a proprietary ensemble that weighs a multi-signal input matrix of verified polling, past results, campaign finance and the national environment, recalculated nightly. Each release is versioned and checksummed.
- A snapshot of today, not a probability. Inputs change; these totals are recomputed every few minutes from the same data as each race page.
