About
Jay Jones is Virginia's 49th Attorney General, sworn in on January 17, 2026. A Norfolk native, he comes from a family with a long record of public service: his grandfather was a Civil Rights attorney and Norfolk School Board member, and his father served in the General Assembly and as a state agency director. Before elected office he was an Assistant Attorney General in the District of Columbia's Office of Consumer Protection. He then served in the Virginia House of Delegates, where he authored the Ashanti Alert missing-persons law, and he litigated voting-rights cases for the Virginia NAACP.
